The opportunity

The St Kitts Electricity Company is seeking investment in up to 18 MW-AC of renewable generation on a build, own and operate basis.

For an island grid of this size, 18 MW-AC is a material share of peak demand, which puts integration — dispatch, storage, and the terms of the power purchase agreement — at the centre of the economics rather than at the margin.

SKIPA publishes no capital requirement or tariff for this opportunity. Both would have to come from the utility directly, and the PPA terms will determine whether the project is financeable.

Incentives available

Duty-free import of plant and machinery is available to enterprises holding a Fiscal Incentives Act concession. Renewable energy is a designated priority sector.

Risks to weigh

No published tariff or PPA terms. Grid integration at this share of demand is the principal technical risk; hurricane exposure the principal physical one.
